- 1. add parent categories
- 1a. as usual
- 1b. {{Usercat}}
- 1c. {{Source category}}
- 1d. {{Dab}}
- 2. delete (especially empty categories)
- 2a. add {{speedy|empty, no parent categories, no description}}
- 2b. add {{speedy|empty, no parent categories}}
- 2c. add {{badname|new category name}}
- 2d. add {{subst:DelCatSubst}} so it gets deleted as empty once the last file in the category is deleted.
- 3. add {{category redirect|current category name}}
- 4. Wikidata
- 4a. add {{Wikidata Infobox|qid=}} including the qid
- 4b. add the category to a Wikidata item (a bot might add the infobox at Commons later)
- 4c. edit with Duplicity/PetScan:29262480
- 5. revert vandalism
- 6. move files to better categories, once this one is empty request deletion or redirect
- 7. contact "last user"
- 7a. ask category creator to add parent categories. For a standardized talk page message, see Template:How to create new categories (include parent categories).
- 7b. ask blanker to request speedy deletion or to leave a redirect behind; possibly, to use "move" not "copy and paste".
- 8. do a nulledit on categories with parent categories from templates where this hasn't fully propagated (ideally done by bot on all categories listed)
- 9. check RecentChangesLinked
- 10. open a discussion on CfD about the category, its planned scope and use, possible parent categories, description, Wikidata items to connect or disconnect
