File talk:Sanija selfie.jpg
Probably a legitimate own work
[edit]@Inertia6084 This is stated by the uploader to be a selfie and own work, which means that the uploader is the subject of the photograph. Objectively, it's a selfie. The question is whether the "own work" part is true. I think that the uploader really is the subject of the photograph considering edits such as en:Special:Diff/1054573627 and de:Special:Diff/217168693 and the "sa-" element (edit: in the name). In all likelihood, during 10-11 November 2021, after becoming the co-president of the movement, the subject took a selfie of herself, uploaded it to Wikipedia, and updated the entries about the movement to add her name as the new leader and to add an image of her to an article which had the image of the then-former president. This is obviously the motivation for the upload. The image does not appear to be taken from the internet (no evidence of that). Per COM:MYWORK: Usually, stating that it is a selfie will suffice if that is really the case, though in some cases you may be asked for additional evidence. This should be the "usually" case and not a case when we really need to ask for additional evidence. Alalch E. (talk) 14:45, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

- Don't remove the tag. The image is low quality, like a scan. I also don't see data-information. Don't remove it again, before the right permission is given. (but then... it's a selfie and out of scope, low quality). I can delete it also, so let the copyright-tag stay! - Inertia6084 (talk) (talk) 15:01, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Let's have a deletion discussion that includes other editors. I have stated my reasons and I contest a speedy deletion. The permission is the CC BY-SA 4.0 license by the uploader of own work. The quality is sufficient. The image is clear. Alalch E. (talk) 15:04, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

- @Materialscientist and Yann: Hello, I am pinging you to this page to get your opinion on whether it's possible to start a consensus-based deletion process to discuss whether the image is eligible for retention or not, because I think it's fine and I contest speedy deletion. The tag is non-factual (an own-work selfie with a suitable license is evidence of permission unless we have reasons to suspect that the "own work" claim was a lie, and here we have no reason to suspect that, and we have circumstantial evidence that it was not a lie). Your thoughts on this are highly appreciated. Sincerely Alalch E. (talk) 15:16, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

- The host discusses how the subject, Sanija Ameti, who sits in the studio, has her selfie as the image in the wp article about her (Und Sanija Ameti ist übrigens die einzige Person, die bei ihrem Wikipedia-Eintrag ein Selfie als Foto hat) and this file is shown. - given this video, i think the selfie is legit own work by the uploader. RZuo (talk) 13:06, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- The same selfie was uploaded to the site of the organization of which she became co-president, but there it is cropped, so the file on Commons was not taken from there (https://www.operation-libero.ch/sites/default/files/styles/primer_content_xl/public/2021-12/Sanjia%20Ameti.jpg) Instead, the file on www.operation-libero.ch was derived from the same file which was uploaded in more original form to the Commons. This means two things: (1) the subject is satisfied with being represented using this image (if she weren't, she would have made it so that another image of herself is used on the website of the organization of which she is co-president), and this is consistent with her adding this image to Wikipedia to serve as her picture; (2) the Commons user who uploaded this file has the original, not-yet-cropped image, evidenced from how the image very much needs cropping, so if the Commons image had also been cropped, it would have been cropped better, and this is consistent with the expectation that the taker of the selfie has the original unedited file. - Comment Is there any evidence that her and the uploader are the same person? If not, then I'd say the image should be deleted as COPYVIO anyway if even if it is a selfie. Since the uploader still wouldn't be able to upload it without her permission regardless. --Adamant1 (talk) 02:05, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Comment That's not a scan, that's a typical smartphone sensor image with high ISO and bad denoising, probably taken with a low quality front camera . The pose, the skew angle and the lighting add to the conclusion that this is clearly a selfie. (And the picture in the background should most probably count as de minimis btw.) -- Herbert Ortner (talk) 19:04, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
