Two military colours of Malta
[edit]Article(s): w:Flag of Malta, w:List of flags of Malta, w:Armed Forces of Malta
- Request
- On this page of the AFM website I saw following descriptions for its colour:
The AFM Colour of the Armed Forces of Malta is an oddity amongst military flags within the British tradition. This infantry colour bears the symbols of artillery, which normally would carry no ceremonial flags.
Specifically, it is a red-above-blue bicolour, bearing at the centre the badge of the Royal Malta Artillery (minus Royal Crown), which is the main predecessor of the modern-day Armed Forces of Malta; the motto "TUTELA BELLICAE VIRTUTIS" means "Custodians of Military Prowess". The four corners bear the seven-flamed grenade above the scroll reading "MALTA", tilted 45 degrees.
Currently it carries three battle honours on scrolls, from top to bottom: "MDCCC" (Siege of Valetta 1800); "EGYPT 1882"; and (below the motto) "MALTA 1942". All emblems are in gold, with the exception of the Maltese Cross of the RMA badge, which is white. Red sleeve; golden fringe, cord and tassels; black pole with a silver finial in the form of a hollowed spearhead bearing a Maltese Cross.- In addition, there is also the description for its presidential colour:
The Armed Forces of Malta's Presidential Colour is the National Flag with a yellow de Redin Tower at the centre, above a yellow scroll reading "FORZI ARMATI". Red sleeve; golden fringe, cord and tassels; black pole with a silver finial in the form of a hollowed spearhead bearing a Maltese Cross.

- Commons' default Chinese font and several other fonts do not have vertical escapements.
- I added the font Noto Sans CJK SC (simplified Chinese). If you want traditional, we can use AR PL Ukai TW.
- Glrx (talk) 20:19, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx I would like traditional, as this is actually written in Japanese, not Chinese. There also seems to be a spacing issue with rendering though, since if I look here I can see the right side font kind of colliding with the center. Thank you. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 07:20, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Immanuelle:
- I set the alignment-baseline to central and removed dominant-baseline: text-after-edge. Does that fix the spacing issue?
- I set the fonts to Noto Sans JP, Noto Sans CJK JP, AR PL Ukai TW, Noto Sans CJK SC, sans-serif (the original SVG specifies sans-serif).
- The file also uses a lot of spaces to set the text position....

- I got a clickable image. But I am not sure if we could change languages or something there Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 16:36, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Immanuelle: Links are only active when the SVG file is displayed. On wiki pages, a PNG file is displayed instead. By changing languages, do you mean changing the targets of links? (e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namu_My%C5%8Dh%C5%8D_Renge_Ky%C5%8D to point to another wiki?) That would be relatively hard and contorted. Making the links point to WikiData would be possible; then the user could click a link to view a wiki article. Better would be a WikiData link that redirected to a wiki article in the user's language. (IIRC, there was a request for such links but I do not think they exist.) Or do you mean you want to translate the Chinese characters to other languages? Glrx (talk) 16:34, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx yeah that functionality would be good.
- The icon is always written in Japanese in all churches/temples whether they do their services in Japanese, English, or other languages. But letting people click the names and redirect to their language articles from wikidata would be great, especially since it means the image would not need to be edited in the future when new language articles get added.
- We could make an english language version of this too, honestly it is a bit difficult for me because I am bilingual enough that I would not know what a monolingual person would want. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 05:26, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

- Source for shape? Photos look rectangular for me, not tailed.
- Asked for help to determine the fate - Gabuxae (talk) 07:56, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Gabuxae In this last picture [12] it looks like a triangle with small tails, or at least that's what it looks like to me. Although you've really shaken my confidence and I'll believe it's just a triangle. As for the old file, it's best to delete it, because it probably won't be used ever again and it could be misleading. The blue flag should be a new file called "House flag of OceanGate". "House flag" is the term for the flag of the company that owns the ship. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 09:40, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- I definitely don't believe it's "just a triangle" - it certainly has an side, and not a point, at your second reference.
- To add to the confusion, all three photos show two flags with OG logo. We are talking about one without red, aren't we?
- Some internet photos of unknown source do show the current file used as a flag: [13]. Maybe some research was in fact done.
- Gabuxae (talk) 09:50, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Gabuxae I've seen this picture [14], but I haven't seen a white flag anywhere else, and the picture itself looks like the logo was added by computer to an empty flag. As for the flags with orange, they were mission flags. Since they couldn't organize tourist trips in submersibles, they officially organized research missions, and the clients were listed as mission personnel. The flags are a form of memorabilia, I've seen pictures of the flags from missions 4 and 5. These flags could be digitized, but I don't see any use for them in any article, and it would be a very difficult undertaking because the crew signed their names there. - Aitken, Lilburn & Co General Shipping Co., this flag also appears two pages later in that book in a slightly different version

- Please make some house flags of old shipping companies. The flags of companies 2 and 3 can also be seen here, but the font is a bit too thin and they forgot the dot after the "c". Swiãtopôłk (talk) 09:15, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

- Need SVG versions of all these emblems. Since the original images come from various websites and hence have different dimensions, the final SVG versions of these images need to have their dimensions equalised. SuperWIKI (talk) 03:46, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Wrong emblems of South Yemen need to get fixed
[edit]-
1970-1990 version

1967-1970 version (only difference is the text)
-
How the emblems are supposed to look like
Article(s): South Yemen articles in all languages
- Request
- Since 2009, these were the only two images of the emblem of South Yemen. The problem with them is that the person who made them has got everything from the font of the text to the Eagle itself (which is just the 2008 version of the emblem of iraq but with the colors changed) wrong. The funniest part of this all is that there are terrorist groups in yemen who actually use this wrong version of the emblem. I hope that someone manages to fix this quickly because I tried and kinda failed
References that can be used to fix the issues
[edit]- File:Emblem of South Yemen from an official document.jpg
- clearest version of the font used in the 1970-1990 version (2nd photo)
- Variant of the Emblem that was used by the Armed Forces
- Stamp that shows the emblem
- More stamps

- Could someone please create an SVG file of the flag flown from the ramparts of the Fort-la-Latte castle, as seen here and here? It's effectively a banner of the arms of the House of Goyon de Matignon, shown here. Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 13:55, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
